Buying a kitten shouldn't feel like a risk.
Right now, finding a good breeder means digging through private Facebook groups, dead registry links, and classifieds pages that treat a $2,500 kitten like a used couch. Buyers get scammed. Good breeders get lumped in with bad ones.
The deposit scam
Stolen kitten photos, a convincing website, a $500 deposit over Zelle, and then silence. It is the single most common complaint in every breed owner group.
The health gamble
Every pedigree breed carries its own genetic risk, and the panel is different for each — PK-Def and PRA-b in Bengals, SMA and hip scoring in Maine Coons, HCM in nearly all of them. Responsible breeders test. Nothing on a classifieds site tells you whether yours did.
The good ones are invisible
The best catteries are small, careful, and terrible at marketing. They're buried on page nine of Google behind whoever spent the most on ads.
Most breeders are the careful kind.
The people who health test, who raise kittens underfoot, who turn down a sale because the home isn't right — they're the majority, and they're the reason this site is worth building. Kittenry exists to make them easy to find, whether you're after a rosetted Bengal, a twenty-pound Maine Coon, or something rarer.
What a Kittenry badge actually means.
Most directories let anyone with a credit card create a listing. We don't. A cattery clears four checks before it appears on this site, and we re-verify every year.

Registry confirmed
An active TICA or CFA cattery name, checked against the registry itself — not a screenshot they sent us.

Health testing on file
PK-Def, PRA-b and HCM results required and kept on file before listing. We collect them — we don't authenticate lab documents, and we say so plainly.

Raised underfoot
Kittens raised in the home, placed no earlier than 12 weeks, fully vetted and vaccinated before they go.

Accepts card payment
Pay your deposit by credit card and keep your chargeback rights. Never send money by Zelle, Cash App, or wire — that's how buyers get robbed.
What we refuse to do.
- We don't take your deposit. You pay the cattery directly. We never sit between you and your money.
- We don't sell placement. No breeder can buy their way to the top of the list.
- We don't list hybrids. No F1–F3 Savannahs, servals, or caracals. Legality varies by state and we won't gamble with it.
- We don't accept everyone. Catteries that fail verification aren't listed, no matter what they offer to pay.

A $600 pedigree kitten isn't a bargain. It's a story that ends badly.
Why not just use the free lists?
Fair question. breedlist.com, CFA's find-a-breeder and TICA's own browse page are all real, all free, and all worth using. Here's what you're actually choosing between — written plainly, including where we're the more restrictive option.

That last row is the honest trade. If you want a kitten this week, a classifieds site has more options than we ever will. We're built for people who'd rather wait three months and know exactly what they're getting.
The number no other directory can show you.
Ask any breeder who has paid for a listing whether it worked. Most genuinely cannot answer — a lot of these sites have had no working analytics since Universal Analytics was retired in 2023. They cannot tell you how many people opened your profile, because nobody is counting.
An example of what a listing dashboard shows you:
It counts people, not pageviews — deduplicated per visitor, crawlers filtered out, and your own visits excluded. A number you can tell is wrong would be worse than no number at all, so we would rather it read low and be true.
If that number is zero, don't pay us. That is the whole pitch.
And one number that isn't an example:
0 on the buyer list right now, each having told us the breed, the state, the budget and the timing — before a single cattery was listed. 0 asked to be emailed the moment a verified cattery posts a matching litter.
Nobody is on the buyer list yet. That number is live and today it reads zero. We're not going to hide it until it looks better — that would make this entire section a worked example of a rule we were breaking two paragraphs later.
